5 Powerful Techniques For Persuasive Speaking

Although persuasive speaking may appear quite simple, Most of us are not born persuaders. For the majority of us, the arts of persuasion and influence are not gifts we inherently possess.

The art of persuasion is a technique used to convince an audience to adopt one's point of view. This is accomplished by presenting facts, values, reasoning, and various other persuasive strategies.

Despite the abundance of resources available online, there is no "one size fits all" approach to persuasion; instead, you must familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of this tool to make the most of it.

If you're struggling with persuasive speaking and this is the fifth article you've read on Google searching for a solution, you've come to the right place.

By the time you have finished reading this guide, you should be able to:

What Is Persuasion?

As was previously said, the purpose of persuasion is to get others to act or think in a way that is more consistent with your beliefs, ideals, and perspectives. Successful persuasion relies on the speaker's ability to establish rapport with his or her audience through the application of the PCAS framework: Problem, cause, solution.

Here is an example of PCAS.

Problem: Since the pandemic, There has been a rise in the rate of social disconnection, anxiety, and loneliness.

Cause: A recent analysis of surveys reveals that COVID-19 is responsible for a large increase of loneliness and emotional distress. Because of the virus, individuals are no longer living in optimal environments for their survival.

Solution: Volunteering. Maintaining meaningful relationships with people is critical for reestablishing global connections. This approach has the potential to help alleviate heart disease and combat feelings of sadness. By bringing individuals and communities together for the purpose of the greater good, we can co-create a new world of belonging with each other.

Here are some more examples of PCA framework

Although the PCA framework is the fundamental building block of what it means to be persuasive, it has many layers. We will go through these levels in greater detail later in the guide.

Why Persuasion Matters

"Proficiency in persuasion is a must in any profession." - Lena Abrielle.

The capacity for persuasion is intrinsic to many other skills, such as, effective listening, problem-solving, and communication skills.

For example, one of the most sought-after skills in recent college graduates is the ability to communicate clearly and concisely. While many people prefer to avoid situations where they might have to persuade others; those skilled at communication look forward to such opportunities. Considering they have a better grasp of persuasion principles, it is simpler for them to apply these tactics in their communication.

Therefore, knowing how to persuade is essential for all industries and professions.

Develop strong relationships

Being aware of other people's emotions and interpreting them correctly is another important skill. Having a high level of emotional intelligence can help you relate to others, personalize your messaging and build trust.

Pay close attention to the way other people react by observing their facial expressions and other nonverbal cues. For example, if someone crosses their arms, offers short responses and glances around the room frequently, it may be a sign that they’re disinterested in your conversation.

5 Factors of Persusive Speaking

1. Audience Analysis

Finding a way to acknowledge your audience is one of the most effective ways to build a relationship and get people to listen to you.

Knowing your audience's demographics (age, gender, race, beliefs, attitudes, worries, and way of life) can help you choose the topics and details that resonate most with them.

Using audience analysis effectively requires adapting your methods of persuasion to each unique audience, circumstance, and event. Therefore, these four rules should be followed religiously whenever this component is involved.

2.

Your ability to persuade an audience hinges on your knowledge of persuasive factors. Maximum influence is yours for the taking if you have the correct tools and know how to use them. To successfully persuade an audience, you must incorporate these five points in your speech.
